Last Week!

I can't believe that it is already week 10! This class flew by!... Unfortunately I still can not figure out the jQuery and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I had Robin from the class try to help me figure out the problem (much appreciated) but I still can't seem to figure it out. I am putting my last touches on my website and it is almost complete. This was a great class, I really enjoyed making the website. Although, it was very confusing to take this class online and not be able to meet with a teacher whenever we have a problem. It was really cool to actually see the website come together and realize how much work we actually did! I am currently in 6 classes this semester, so even for this class to end a month before my other ones is a little bit of weight off my shoulder. Time to relax (just a little). jQuery..

It was interesting using jQuery and seeing what it can do to a webpage. I learned a little bit by watching the videos that the professor had posted but I wish I knew a little more. I am having issue with part of the assignment. I was able to get the draggable part to work but not the green animation. I tried a few different things but could not get it to work. I am still working on it, so hopefully my next blog I post will have a background color! Although, I do not want it to be green because it won't match my page! Hope you all like my first blog :).

Misunderstanding..

I have just realized something now during Week 8 that I have been doing something wrong this entire class. I had no idea that we were suppose to submit a forum to the teacher which lets him know that we have completed the discussion boards! I have done all of the discussion boards up to date and checked my grades and received a 0/100 on all of them, I almost had a heart attack! Did anyone else have this problem? I thought by submitting our threads to the discussion boards was the way to show the teacher and class that we have our discussion completed. Now that it is week 8... I realized we post a blog and on the discussion board.... then submit a forum saying we completed both... Oy Vey!

Javascript...

This week's assignment was Javascript.  This was easier than I thought it would be. As I mentioned before I had always wondered how websites were created and how they received feedback.  The "say hello" button on my website that we had to create is very cool. I had no I idea it was this easy to actually put a website together. I have learned a lot about how websites work through taking this class. Doing this assignment and seeing the completed work was rather fun. It still amazes me that just by typing in certain commands into a text program that it can simply be created into a website that does fun things such as the stuff from this assignment.  Interactive WebPages are very useful in the Internet world today. I am glad we learned about this.

Week 7 Jotform...

This week we worked the with Jotform feedback. This was fairly simple to make because the codes were straight forward after watching the video.  This is a cool idea for people to give and take advice on how the class and others think our websites are coming along.  It is cool to think about how websites are actually created. Now every time I look at a website I am going to think.. I wonder who made this and if they made it with the same codes I used?  I have always wondered how forums were created and now I know! Creating my website is something that I can look back on forever, rather than just delete it after this class is finished. It is a good feeling to know that you have made a website all by yourself and it is only yours.

Creating my website...

Safe to say my website is finally coming along!.... Once I saw all of the different coding for creating the website, I thought I would never be able to figure it out. It looks more confusing than it actually is, and I feel now that I am actually getting the hang of it, the class is almost over. Although, I am still having a lot of trouble. This might have to do with not being able to connect to FilaZilla like the rest of the class can though! I wish I could because now I do not know how my final grade is going to turn out. My website is finally starting to look like a real website. One question is how do I make all of the font centered? Mine is all right aligned and I want it to be in the center. Any suggestions from the class? I never knew this was how you actually make website. This is good to know for future reference.  I feel like I have learned a lot so far in this class and it is very beneficial .

Midterms...

I can't believe that it is already midterm time! I feel like the semester just started. I must say I do like accelerated courses that are only 10 weeks. They go by much quicker than the other ones although the work is a bit of a heavier load. I felt that I did good on my midterm, but had some trouble with how it was displaying. I also had to pass in two 6-10 page papers and take a test this week. I am so glad this week is almost over and I get to enjoy spring break, even though I won't be going anywhere.  I cannot wait for this semester to be over all together, taking 6 class was harder than I thought . Working 35 hours a week and keeping up with all my homework is very though. It will be worth it in the end when I graduate this summer!

Pandora..

One of my most used Web application would be Pandora. Pandora is an Internet Radio that you can use for free music. Almost everyone I know with an Iphone or Laptop uses it. In my house, we use our Ipad as a radio and just use Pandora. Pandora is a web application that allows you to listen to the music that you have asked Pandora to play. You can chose the playlist you want base on a specific genre or artist. By clicking “thumbs up” or “thumbs down,” Pandora becomes adapt to what type of songs you actually like. Sometimes I believe that Pandora knows exactly what I want to hear. You are allowed to put all of your playlists on shuffle and it will give you all the genres of music you have told Pandora you liked. For example when I am working out I listen to “today’s hip hop.” The best part about this radio app is that it is free. I do not even put music on my Ipod anymore because all I ever use is Pandora. The only downfall to Pandora is the commercials and you are only allowed 6 skips per radio stations. It is really annoying when you have a commercial every 4 songs. When you are already used up your 6 skips per station, you can just make another station. Having unlimited radio stations is a plus to listen to as much music as you want.

Week 5...

The wide availability of information will affect the world in a positive way. In the classroom, teachers have directed students to do research themselves. Now that we all have the internet on our mobile phone, we can search an answer as fast as we want, or even just ask Siri.  This makes it very convenient for people to find any answer they need as soon as possible. Google helps with situations like this a lot. At this point in life, I don’t know what I would even do without Google.  This may not be a good thing for the younger generation because instead of finding out answers themselves in school while they are suppose to be learning, they just Google it. I know if I had this availability of Internet access when I was young, I think that I would just end up using Google for everything instead of finding the answer myself.

Augusta Market

Have you guys ever heard of Augusta Market in Billerica, MA? Well I would have to say it is the best sub place around. It is a family business owned by my grandparents and I am honored to be a part of it. It was my first job when I was 16 years old. I have never heard anyone say a bad thing about Augusta's. They sell the best chicken bites ever, which is what makes people coming back for more. When you go to Augusta's you have to get the chicken bites! Whether it's in a sub or just chicken bites with dipping sauce. The sauce is amazing whether you like buffalo to honey mustard or whichever it is you life. I would have to say my personal favorite is a buffalo chicken sub. I could eat that sub every day of my life. Luckily for me, I have them at every family party and get some free food here and there. Recently they just opened up a food truck called the "Cluck Truck," which is a truck that you could have in your business or where ever you suggest them and you can order food right off the truck. This is very convenient if you don't live near the Augusta's location on Boston road. Even if my family didn't own this business I would still love it and have it be my favorite food!

Beyonce ...

 

 

Did everyone see Beyonce’s performance at the Super Bowl? Well if you haven’t here it is. I would say that this was the best half time performance I have ever seen. Not only do I love Beyonce, but she did an amazing job. During the performance she brought on stage the other two members of Destiny’s Child. Destiny’s Child was one of my favorite pop groups growing up as a kid so this was a big deal to me. I thought they did great, but Beyonce alone is still just as good. Some had negative opinions about the other Destiny's Child members coming out for such a short amount of time and letting Beyonce steal the show. Although let's face it, it was Beyonce's halftime show and she could've done it alone. I think Beyonce inspired a lot of people including myself to hit the gym! She had no fat on her legs, they were pure muscle. If the world wasn’t already in love with Beyonce before this performance, they are now. The only thing that would’ve made the performance better would be if her husband Jay-Z came on stage too. Beyonce is extremely talented and didn’t lip sing at all. These days you either lip sing and not dance, but she did both. I remember thinking back to when the Black Eyed Peas performed and they sang live and you could hear how out of breath they were from actually performing. Beyonce sang and danced perfectly, I would say I didn’t see one thing she did wrong.

Internet Communication

The Internet has changed the way we communicate in a big way. I would say that it brought us closer to family and friends, yet made the friendships we have more impersonal. It is nice to be able to stay in touch with friends or family through their Facebooks. For example I get to see my family members and pictures of their children on facebook, which makes me feel as if I see them more than I do. I talk to people that I don’t normally see a lot in person through facebook, which makes me feel like I still keep in touch with them. I would agree that we choose to email rather than talk on the phone because it makes it more convenient for everyone, but does make it less personal. You can take your time with responding rather than talking on the phone and getting the conversation over with quickly. I believe that Skype is useful rather than visiting in person if the locations are future away, which makes Skype a wonderful thing. Friendship is very cheap now for the fact that we all have over 200 facebook friends with everyone who lives in our area. These days, when you say that someone is your “facebook friend” that doesn’t necessarily mean you are their friend in real life. Sometimes we will see people on our newsfeed that we don’t necessarily care to see information about because we might have only met them once in our life.

Internet Education

The Internet has affected the education for students around the world.  Education for example is a very positive outcome in the Internet. Now students can get their degrees all online without having to actually go to class. This is very convenient for students who work full time or just don't have the time to go to campus daily. No matter where the students are located they can attend any college that offers online degrees.  This also allows people to travel and still be able to attend the same college the whole time. Another way the Internet has effected education would just be through all of the new ways students utilize the Internet. Students now take a lot of their tests online even and use the Internet for help. When students write papers a good way to find information is through the Internet. The Internet helps students look up answers and information to include on their papers, I do not know what I would do without using these utilities. The Internet is defiantly a positive way to help educate people. Back in the day none of these were available to students and I believe that Internet and the education is just going to keep expanding and growing. Pretty soon majority of college students will just get their degrees online.  I also believe that it is helpful for people to be educated on how the Internet works, and this class will all help us out on educating and making ourselves more knowledgeable of the internet.

Introduction

Hello I am Melanie Strazzere from Billerica, MA. I am a senior here at UML with a Liberal Arts major. I graduated from Middlesex Community College with a Business Associates Degree. I have taken a couple online courses, but this is the first time I have used the new Blackboard Learn. This is also my first time blogging and I think that it will be a beneficial experience. I work at the front desk of the Boys and Girls Club of greater Billerica. I have two sisters and a black lab.
